The majority of parents prefer prestigious and outstanding public schools to determine the ideal educational facility for their children. However, many parents decide to still send their children to boarding schools if they have problems. So, Pesantren is only seen as a gathering place for naughty children. Although this perception has recently begun to disappear, this assumption is still prevalent in society.
As we know, Islamic boarding schools are important institutions for religious learning, especially Islam. However, recently Islamic boarding schools do not only focused on religious studies. Pesantren has a public school too, so the community’s interest and consideration have increased. Pesantren also has good educational potential and begins to grow. There is no need to separate the issues of general education and pesantren education which may be left behind from the past. In addition, moral development must be followed by parental support.
The development of the personality of the Santri focuses on morals, or what we usually call Akhlakul Karimah, especially to fix religious beliefs. Santri is taught good ways of worship at the pesantren, starting from ablution, prayer, fasting, reciting the Qur’an, and other activities. The development of the morals of the Santri can be achieved through strengthening the relationship between santri and their Creator, Allah SWT. Santri will increasingly begin to understand that having a positive relationship with God is not enough. Another element that must be possessed is a positive relationship with other people, especially people who are close to them.
Taking good care of children is important because they are a valuable resource. As early as possible should be used to instill the development of good character and morals. The key to this achievement is the parenting style of the parents or guardians. The process that lasts for a lifetime is how children’s intellectual and emotional intelligence develops. A child’s environment can also influence how that child develops as a person. Being accustomed to living in a boarding school setting, every parent who chooses to enroll their child in one hopes that religious and Islamic values will be deeply ingrained in the child’s soul.
So, is it true if parents entrust their children to study at Islamic boarding schools, it is alleged that the parents have neglected their obligations as parents? Parental support, both material and moral, cannot be separated from the success of Islamic boarding schools in educating children’s morals. Parents who enroll their children in Islamic boarding schools are a form of concern about the development of their children’s character and parents are ultimately still responsible for their children’s education. Therefore, Islamic boarding schools are effective in fostering moral development. However, parents must still uphold their obligations as parents by always praying and fostering a closer relationship with the Creator. So that the development of the morals and faith of their children in Islamic boarding schools can be achieved successfully. Parents must not forsake prayers or other good deeds even when children understand and follow religion properly. Children still see their parents as role models forever because the most appropriate way to educate them is to set good examples.
