Thursday, September 5th, 2024 – English Department of Al Qolam University Malang, through the English Community, collaborates with and carries out cadre formation at MAN 2 Malang. The cadre formation aims to help MAN 2 Malang form an English Language Community in the school environment and increase students’ interest and ability in English.
This activity is motivated by the importance of mastering English as an international language. access to overseas scholarships, requirements for registering as civil servants in several directorates and regions as well as requirements to be able to apply to multinational companies, you must master English. However, mastery of English if you only rely on English subject hours will not be optimal. Mastering English requires regular, frequent and continuous practice. The problem is, when outside of class, students want to practice speaking English, they feel embarrassed, afraid and worried about being bullied by their friends or environment. The English Language Community aims to build a positive environmental climate that supports learning practical English communication skills in a comfortable, calm and enjoyable manner without feeling worried about being ostracized or ridiculed by the surrounding environment.
In this activity, the Al Qolam English Community was represented by the Head of the English Department, Hanif Maulaniam Sholah, M.Pd. and accompanied by several student members of the community. Al Qolam representatives were well received by MAN 2 Malang who were welcomed directly by the Principal Titien Sumartin, S.Pd. along with the English Subject Teacher and Program Coordinating Teacher.
The school asked Al Qolam to be a facilitator in establishing an English Language Community at the institution. Starting from establishing an organizational structure, providing motivation, and also materials and methods that will later be applied to community activities. Not only in the form of explanations, the English Community also provides examples of the implementation of activities carried out in the community, starting from material discussions, quizzes, to learning using game methods.
With this collaboration, both parties hope that an English Community can be formed and developed so that MAN 2 Malang students can improve various abilities in the field of English, not only passive abilities but also active English skills.
