Traditional Games in Sumberarum Dampit

Sumberarum Village used to be famous for its children who were friendly, sociable, and didn’t make friends. They often play traditional games when they come home from school. There are those who play bekel ball, gobak sodor, dakon, etc. Bekel ball is a game using a small ball that is bounce and some small objects or so-called “kecik”. Bekel ball can be played alone or in groups. Bekel ball games can be played anywhere. In the past, bekel ball games could be found at school or at home. In my village, almost every child has at least 2-3 bekel balls. Some even collect bekel balls because of their cute characters and colors.

Apart from bekel balls, the children in Sumberarum village also often plays gobak sodor. Gobak sodor can only be done by 2 or more people. Often the children in my village play gobak sodor in the afternoon because the weather is not too hot. Gobak sodor is divided into two teams, namely the guard team and the player team. The guard team is tasked with guarding the border line so that players cannot pass. The player’s team must run to pass guard team in order to win the game. In addition, there are also traditional games, namely dakon.

The dakon game also uses small or “small” objects such as bekel balls, but the dakon uses a different kecik. Dakon uses more kecik than bekel balls. The bekel ball uses at least 5 kecik, while the dakon uses at least 50 kecik. Dakon is played alternately and regularly, while bekel ball is played when the opposing team cannot proceed to the next round. These traditional games are now rarely seen in Sumberarum village. Because children now prefer to play gadgets at home rather than playing with their friends.
